Fragment of strap rail and spike from the Northern Cross Railroad, the first railroad to operate in Illinois (1838-1847). The strap rails for this railroad were manufactured in England. Apparently excavated in 1901 at Jacksonville, Ill.

1 fragment of strap rail, 1 spike : iron ; (rail) 17 x 60 x 424 mm. and (spike) 16 x 21 x 121 mm.
